Even though Terrorists, Tornados, And Tsunamis : How To Prepare For Life’s Danger Zones by John C. Orndorff (2006.  JNF 613.69 ORN) has been written for young people, it is an excellent book for all of us to look through.

Many books for adults are too wordy and sometimes not clear enough for us to get much out of them.  This one covers many dangerous situations in simple straightforward language, beginning with what the danger is, how to stay safe through planning ahead, and what to do during the event and afterwards.

As well as the usual natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis, the author also talks about terrorism and crime, his advice coming from his own experience in the US Air Force as a special agent in the Office of Special Investigations.  Reading about and talking about how to react to these dangers will help prepare you for the real thing, in the unlikely event it should happen.
