Horn Of The Lamb
I just finished Horn Of The Lamb by Robert Sedlake (2003. FIC SED) and want to say it was great!! I am not a hockey fan and thought this might not be my cup of tea, but was I wrong.
Hockey is front and centre as the unifying theme, but there are many threads to this story – Fred Pickles and the brain injury that ended his hockey career, Fred’s uncle Jack and his fight to keep his sheep farm and provide a home for Fred, Badger and his revived drive for civil action in the face of injustice, young Ryan and his budding hockey career. Each story is handled well and contributes to the whole with no jarring missteps.
I finished this in three days because I just could not put it down (I did eat, go to work, sleep, drive around, etc. so it wasn’t three days nonstop). Being inside Fred’s head and hearing his thoughts about his world and seeing how quite rational to him his thoughts were are the key to the success of the whole book.
