Prefabulous : The House Of Your Dreams, Delivered Fresh From The Factory
A few years ago my husband and I had a new house built. We looked into the possibility of a prefab but did not find a design we liked. If the book Prefabulous : The House Of Your Dreams, Delivered Fresh From The Factory by Sheri Koones (2006. ANF 643.2 KOO) had been available then we would have had ample choice, or maybe not as this is an American book with only American suppliers, but it might have spurred me on to find Canadian equivalents.
The units pictured are mouth-watering. As expected of a Taunton Press publication, the layout, the photography and the accompanying text complement each other, so what you have in your hands is a truly pleasing and informative book. The homes are unique, showing it is very possible to engineer a one-of-a-kind home.
Gone are the days of panabodes. Those simple rectangular homes with kitchen, living room, bathroom, and two bedrooms on a crawlspace certainly did the job, but nowadays the desire is to make your home a statement. This book has pages and pages of “statements” that make my home look tiny and mundane.
The various types of prefab home are discussed in brief and examples given so you have an idea of what can be achieved. You can get a home in sections, or in slabs or in a kit or any combination. Modular, timber frame, log, concrete, steel, panelized, structural insulated panels - the choices can be daunting. You and your architect can work with the manufacturer to ensure that all your little, and big, ideas can be accommodated.
So, if you are thinking of the home of your dreams, have a look at this book and get an idea of what is possible. You will be surprised.
